Unlock LED Power Knowledge For You

1. Why can't the same power supply with the same power lamp cup (tungsten filament) light up?

The resistance of the lamp cup is very small when it is cold, that is, when the rated voltage is applied to the lamp cup, a large starting current is required before it lights up. When the temperature of the lamp cup rises after it lights up, the resistance value increases sharply, and the current drops to the normal working current of the lamp cup. Since our products have a current limiting protection function, the protection function will appear when the actual current exceeds the rated output current. Therefore, the instantaneous current before the lamp cup lights up exceeds the rated current flow of the power supply (the output power of the lamp cup before lighting up), the power supply is in a protection state and the lamp cup cannot light up.

2. Why is it that when the scanning controller controls the input part of the power supply when the second group of LEDs is lit during scanning, the first group of LEDs cannot be completely turned off?

Although the scanning controller has disconnected the input voltage of the power supply, the electrolytic capacitor inside the power supply has a discharge process, which will keep the entire power supply working for some time. The LED light group connected to the power supply will also be delayed for a while before it can be completely turned off, so the second group of LEDs will light up, but the first group of LEDs cannot be turned off.

When doing LED engineering, the scanning controller must control the output of the power supply and the input circuit of each LED light group, so that the power supply will not affect the LED roof group. During the scanning process, each light group can be synchronized.

3. Why is there still a faint residual light on the LED light after turning off the main power?

Since the switch in the distribution box controls the neutral line, when the neutral line is turned off, the live line current will pass through the power supply to form an induction loop, so that the output part of the power supply has a little weak voltage to power the LED, so there is a weak residual light.

During installation, the neutral line and the live line of the mains must be controlled by switches at the same time. If there is no condition, the live line of the mains must be controlled by a switch.

4. Impact of overload on power supply life

When the power of the connected lamp exceeds the maximum output power of the power supply, the following phenomena will occur:

1. When the maximum output power of the power supply is exceeded (generally 5%-15%), the power supply will be protected and an abnormal state of intermittent switching will occur. If it is in this state for a long time, the life of the power supply will be shortened and even the power supply will be damaged.

2. When the power of the lamp exceeds the maximum output power of the power supply, the internal temperature of the power supply will rise. The switching power supply is an electronic product. The life of electronic products depends to a large extent on the maximum operating temperature. The higher the temperature, the shorter the life. In addition, the power supply itself also consumes energy, which is specifically manifested as heat.

Therefore, during installation and use, it is necessary to avoid overloading the power supply. It is recommended that the load power be 80% of the power supply output power. Only by reducing the body temperature can the life of the power supply be extended.

5. Why should we delay turning on the lights in summer?

Due to the long daytime in summer, the sunlight is still very strong around 17:00, and the temperature is still very high. Under direct sunlight, the surface temperature of the power supply or lamp can reach up to about 70℃. If the light is turned on at this time, the high temperature will affect the service life of the power supply and lamp and even damage the power supply or lamp. Therefore, the lamp needs to delay the light-on time and turn on the light only when the body temperature drops to a certain value so that the lamp and power supply can work within the normal ambient temperature.

6. Pay attention to lightning accidents and strong lightning protection during construction

In natural phenomena, the discharge between clouds is called aerial lightning, and the discharge between clouds and the ground is called ground lightning. The practice has shown that ground lightning is often harmful to power facilities, industry, and civil buildings. As urbanization and environmental pollution become more serious, lightning strikes more and more frequently on rainy days, sometimes reaching thousands of times a night with thunder and lightning. The increase in the number of lightning strikes increases the number of times electrical equipment may be struck by lightning.
